AVALANCHE v0.6 is now available
here, and the accompanying SDK is available
here. This may be the final version of AVALANCHE.
Additionally, a new version of mesh2rdm, v2.3, is available
here. This version contains added support for Quake 1 and Half-Life BSP's, and COLLADA (.dae files). A generic preview mode has also been added, so every format supported by mesh2rdm can be previewed instead of just a select few.

I got my hands on a copy of this month's issue (#65) of Retro Gamer, which has a little write-up on AVALANCHE! I'd venture a guess that this is where that mysterious "popularity boost" recently came from. I snapped a shot of the full page.

The caption, on the rather flattering screenshot, reads "Avalanche: If a new Final Fantasy VII was released today, chances are it might look a little like this." Nice.

I've constructed a "proper" installer for AVALANCHE, and made a DVD case image as a little bonus. You can get the full AVALANCHE v0.5 installer distribution
here, and the CD package with autorun.inf and case images is
here.
There is no actual game/content update, so you don't need to re-download/upgrade if you have already downloaded v0.5. However, I did also update the documentation a little bit (to be more descriptive about menu keyboard controls). The installer also includes some notes pertaining to controls and such, to make that aspect of the game a little bit more user-friendly. Although, it is still fully meant to be played with a 360 gamepad.

After many months of delays, the new AVALANCHE is finally here. You can download the full distribution
here. If you already have v0.1-v0.4 of AVALANCHE and want to upgrade to this version (which is v0.5, by the way), you can get
this instead. A new AVALANCHE SDK has been released with this version, as well, which you can download
here. The new SDK includes numerous buildable sample maps and models (including new player models), and a very comprehensive guide on how to create and modify content for AVALANCHE.

Here's a list of what's new in this version.

On the AVALANCHE page, I mentioned I was hoping to have a release out by early to mid February. Obviously, that hasn't happened. I'm still occupied by my professional/commercial work, and am having to chip away at it in the off hours whenever I can.
However, I have got some more nice features done and ready for when I do the release, and I'll be starting on the new rigid body/ragdoll physics systems pretty soon. I've done more work on ambient lighting and shadows as well, and have cascaded shadowmaps up and running. They aren't actually used in the game anywhere, but theoretically would be excellent for providing dynamic modulated shadows in large outdoor settings in combination with lightmaps.
Additionally, some dude made
an AVALANCHE game guide and posted it on the AVALANCHE forums. He was pretty detailed there, and it was nice to see someone go through the effort of making a guide.
I don't have any real estimates for the v0.5 at the moment. All of my predictions so far have been wrong, so it's pretty reasonable to expect that trend to continue. I'm still hoping to be able to get back to it in April, but we'll see.
